City Consistently Helps Underprivileged Students

Jakarta Provincial Governmet keeps trying to lighten children's burden from underprivileged family in continuing education up to university. One of the ways is by allocation Rp 2 trillion for Jakarta Smart Card program (KJP) for hundreds of thousands of students.

"Mr. Jokowi and I were surprised when we led Jakarta. Based on the date, around 40 percent of chidren cannot go to school due to various factors. One of them is economic," said Jakarta Governor, Basuki T Purnama, Tuesday (5/3).

Glasses Purchase Proposed in KJP

Seeing this condition, the governor who was still Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo had given education aid. Every month, student from underpriviedged gets grants through KJP.

"Our KJP fund is now already Rp 2 trillion for more than 561 thousands students at elementary until senior high school level. But the fund cannot be drawn in cash. It aims to anticipate fund embezzlement," he asserted.

His party also gives grants for outstanding students and can get into the State Universities (PTN) throughout Indonesia.

"This year, we allocate fund by Rp 18 million per year to help them get into the PTN," he told.

He added  similar aid will also be given to students who get into the private universities (PTS). Later on, the aid would be set as living expenses.
